Rodney Dial Ketchikan Gateway Borough Mayor, Norman Skan Ketchikan Indian Community President and Janalee Gauge City of Ketchikan Vice Mayor, sign a joint proclamation proclaiming September 10 as Nettie Jones Day at Schoenbar Middle School on Thursday. The Irene and Nettie Jones Celebration opened with speeches by Teresa Varnell Dla Gwaa T'awaa, Ginger McCormick Yeil atoowu, and Terri Burr Ahl'lidaaw followed by the showing of "I Fought for that Seat," A Schoenbar Labs Production that was introduced by director Chad Frey. Ketchikan Gateway Borough School District Superintendent Michael Robbins spoke; he was followed by dignitaries Dial, Skan and Gauge, who signed the joint proclamation. Dance groups Cape Fox Descendants, Tongass Tribe, Haida Descendants and Gameelaganm Neeaaym performed before the unveiling of Matt Hamilton's mural of Irene and Nettie Jones on the first floor of Schoenbar Middle School.
