Ketchikan Fire Department's Crystal Schleiff uses a spreader to gain access to the driver's door hinges as Holmatro Instructor Chris Mills leads a vehicle extrication drill with the new Holmatro tools at Fire Station 2 on Wednesday. The training came with the purchase of new Holmatro rescue tools, replacing the Ketchikan Fire Department's 20-year-old equipment. The battery-operated tools will be able to cut through newer cars that require greater force faster than the previous equipment and without hydraulics. The purchase of the new equipment was 95 percent funded through a $200,000 FEMA grant, and the other 5 percent came from the City of Ketchikan. Staff photo by Christopher Mullen
